Travel the distance with Bowers’ precast products

0

Based in Te Awamutu in the heart of the Waikato, fami-ly-owned business Bowers & Son Limited is a frequent sight on the roads with its fleet of blue and white con-crete trucks and hiab delivery trucks. For over 70 years, Bow-ers has been manufacturing precast products for custom-ers around the Waikato and greater North Island region.

Initially starting with water troughs for local farm-ers, a strategic move to mak-ing water tanks proved to be a hit with customers. The com-pany has moved with tech-nologies over the years, with the labour-intensive hand plastered circular tanks being replaced in the mid-2000s to the Duracrete self-compact-ing concrete design in precast moulds. This move now enables the company to manufacture up to six 25,000 litre water tanks a day rather than the one per day of previous years, as well as several of the other smaller precast products the company stocks.

Manufacturing a range of sizes to suit many applica-tions with the most common size being the 25,000 litres, but with smaller sizes such as 18,000, 15,000, 10,000 and 6,000 litres also avail-able. With options to fully or partially bury underground depending on customer requirements, the range pro-vides a host of options for customers’ needs as well as industry specific tanks such as effluent sumps for farming applications. Seeing an opportunity early in business with its precast products for delivery to their customers, the com-pany has had a range of flat deck trucks over the years which has enabled tanks to be ramped off the back into position. As the company has grown, bigger trucks with Palfinger cranes have been introduced over the years that can expertly lift off precast products and place directly into position.

Having specialist trucks and operators means Bowers are able to travel distances. Frequently travelling as far as South Auckland, Waiheke Island, Coromandel Penin-sula, Bay of Plenty, King Country, New Plymouth and Gisborne with precast prod-ucts, and particularly tanks, as well as locally around the Waikato area. Most of Bowers’ tanks are wide loads requiring Class 2 pilot vehi-cles to lead the way and cre-ate quite a site on our New Zealand roads. Operators that are experi-enced in delivering tanks with Palfinger cranes ensure that the delivery process is as effi-cient as possible for its cus-tomers.

Having collectively delivered thousands of tanks over the years, the Bowers hiab team are top operators with extensive experience. While no job is the same, their experience counts to ensure a smooth delivery process.
