Gum disease is easily preventable, however just under 50 percent of adults 30 years and older have some form of gum disease. Having worked for a corporate dental practice, I wanted to branch out on my own and set up this clinic to provide this service. There are also a lot of dental clinics that don’t offer dental hygiene or have dental hygienists available. The clinic is equipped with the latest technology in dental hygiene services, the Airflow which uses warm water and powder to gently and effectively remove bacteria. Most people report positive feedback and prefer this system. There are only two other clinics in Hamilton City with this technology
There is growing evidence around gum health and systemic health, especially diabetes and cardiovascular health.
Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to high blood sugar levels in the oral cavity. Which promotes bacterial growth resulting in gum disease.
With cardiovascular disease, the plaque which is found in the arteries is the same type that builds up in our oral cavity. Therefore maintain health gum/ dental health in turn results in improved systemic health.
Our family came to NZ as refugees back in 1986, I was three years old. I have called Hamilton my home ever since, apart from when I studied my bachelors in Auckland for three years. I travelled up on Mondays and returned back on Friday’s, leaving my one and a half year old with her grandparents. All done to provide a better future for her and myself – as we have been on our own.
