Nixon Homes celebrates two years of building homes with a personal touch

0

Celebrating two years of adding the personal touch to home building, Hamilton firm Nixon Homes has grown from strength-to-strength and picked up an award along the way.

Founded by brothers Cameron and Mike Holmes, the pair has gone from selling one house in its first year to seven completed this year with another 10 on the books for next year. The pair recently hosted a birthday event at their stunning award winning showhome in Flagstaff, the ideal location for a party, with their customers, suppliers, friends and family who have supported them throughout their journey.

As a small company they aim to deliver a high quality, personalised service and this means being focused and flexible for every one of their clients. This approach to building has seen them take out a prestigious silver in the Master Builders Awards.

Both agree, it’s crucial for them to understand their client’s needs; from the big picture design to the smallest details.

They pride themselves on really getting to know their clients in order to design and build a home that is perfectly suited to the way they live.

“We aim to deliver homes that families love and are proud of, and that are completed to the highest standard of craftsmanship,” Mike says.

Covering the entire Waikato region with 10 builders, they encompass the full range from smaller first homes to full architectural homes with a lot more detail, including one in Te Kauwhata based on their own showhome, which won silver in the 2020 Master Builders Awards.

“We enjoy doing these detailed homes because it’s something different and we really have a sense of pride after completion and seeing it done.

“We also see ourselves building more of these unique style homes in the future with our highly experienced in-house team of builders and our focus on delivering high quality homes,” Mike says.

An engineer by trade, Mike teamed up with his builder brother Cameron just three years ago to establish the business, while he was working in the Netherlands. Cameron is an experienced builder of 15 years and both the brothers decided it was time to put down some roots with their families; Cameron has just had a baby with his partner and Mike’s partner is due soon.

Mike’s recent return from Holland to work full time and to support Cam and Nixon Homes’ business has seen the last of late night meetings, across two different time-zones,  between the brothers.

It’s meant he can really get to know the business from the ground up and is mucking in wherever he’s needed.

As managing director, Cameron deals directly with clients throughout the process and he can really draw on his building experience to provide great advice and support.

“For us it’s that personal touch. They get to spend time with me, going around choosing the kitchen, tapware, all the things that change the price,” Cameron says.

They have plans they sell to, but encourage clients to come up with a custom design using their Hamilton-based architectural designer, a service they offer at no additional charge.

“We encourage design and build because we want to make them feel part of the process and have a good experience,” Cameron says.

Understanding their clients’ needs and expectations is a critical part of Nixon Homes’ build process, enabling them to deliver homes that families love and are proud of, and that are completed to the highest standard of craftsmanship.
