Gourmet in the Gardens returns on Sunday to the Rhododendron Lawn at Hamilton Gardens, marking its 10th anniversary season of bringing people together through great food and good vibes.

What began a decade ago as a simple idea to reconnect the community over shared meals has evolved into one of the Waikato’s most beloved summer events. From its early days on Turtle Lake hillside with just 14 gazebos and a handful of food trucks, Gourmet in the Gardens has grown alongside the region’s vibrant food truck scene, now boasting an impressive line-up of local food trucks and culinary talent.
“Food is such a great connector,” says organiser Tania Simpson of Food Truck Events, who has led the event solo for the past three years.

“Over the past decade, we’ve seen new food businesses start here and go on to thrive. But it’s the smiles, conversations, and community connections that make Gourmet in the Gardens truly special.”
Regular customer and Hamiltonian Michelle Morrow tries to go as often as she can and says it’s the vibrant atmosphere and sense of community that keep her coming back.
“It’s like a big family gathering where we can relax and listen to great music and meet with friends and family while picking different food options each week” says Morrow.
“It’s such a special way for our family to bond and connect during the summer.”
The event has become known for its relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, where barefoot kids dance to live music, dogs wander happily beside their owners, and locals linger over dinner under the summer sky.
“We call those the golden moments of Gourmet,” says Simpson.
“It’s magical to see people celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, or simply enjoying a meal together outdoors”, she adds.
