Trust launches online store with a difference

Shopping for life-changing surgery is now possible thanks to a new online donation portal launched by Braemar Charitable Trust.

The Waikato-based Trust owns Braemar Hospital and works to advance healthcare equity and access and helps to boost healthcare outcomes for the people of the Waikato rohe.

The Trust invests dividends from the hospital and is supported by many of the credentialed specialists and anaesthetists who work there, but donations elevate the impact of the work the Trust does says Braemar Charitable Trust Manager, Paula Baker.

“Donations mean we can achieve so much more because they supplement the funding we already generate.”

The new portal in the form of an online store, enables people to donate for specific surgery, scholarship or medical research, or give any amount.

“We’ve opened the door for people who for example, may specifically want to reduce wait times for children on ENT [Ear, Nose and Throat] surgery waitlists, or want an easy way to donate a specific amount, big or small,” says Paula.

“Any amount can help us achieve more.”

The Trust recently compiled a table (see below) detailing what a donation to their flagship Community Surgery Programme can achieve and the equivalent costs for private surgery. This guide indicates the impact a donation can have for specific surgeries and programmes from $500-$30,000.

“Every procedure has a profound impact, not only for the patient but also those they care for, and their ability to get on with their lives,” says Paula.
