Former Waikato Business News editor Mike Blake, 77, has died.

He began his journalism career at the Waikato Times and moved through the ranks to edit newspapers and magazines in New Zealand and had stints on The Fiji Times and Fiji Sun.

On his return to Hamilton in the early 2000s he became editor of Waikato Business News.

He spent more than 10 years on the Waikato Chamber of Commerce board, about five of those as president of the organisation and was rewarded with life membership for his commitment when he retired.

Blake died on Monday July 29 at Hilda Ross Care Centre in Hamilton after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Eileen of 55 years. His funeral will be held on Monday (August 5).
