Cricket fans can look forward to a massive summer with visits to Seddon Park from the India and Sri Lanka men’s teams, Bangladesh women as well as the return of crowds to domestic cricket.
The action will burst into life when India arrives in New Zealand to play the BLACKCAPS in three T20s, and three ODIs including one in Hamilton on 27 November.
Playing at home for the first time under new coach Ben Sawyer, the WHITE FERNS will play Bangladesh at Seddon Park in an ODI a week before Christmas on 18 December.
ND Cricket chief executive Ben MacCormack was looking forward to the return of the WHITE FERNS after the successful hosting of the world cup earlier this year. “Last summer’s ICC Women’s World Cup did so much to promote the game, and it will be great to see the WHITE FERNS in action back at Seddon Park.
“And to have India and Sri Lanka visit here means cricket fans can look forward to a summer of top-quality cricket.” Sri Lanka’s arrival in New Zealand will round out a jam-packed Seddon Park schedule this summer on 31 March.
Domestic competitions for Northern Districts are sprinkled between the international matches, headed by the Dream11 Super Smash which has been scheduled to coincide with the school break and summer holidays. The latest iteration of New Zealand’s domestic T20 league will welcome back families, children, crowds, and fun, following the challenges of last season’s Covid-related restrictions.
Seddon Park will host three matches – Otago (6 January), Wellington (28 January), and Central Districts (3 February) – with the Northern Brave men defending the title they claimed last season, and women looking to build on the positive foundation laid last season.
There will also be the traditional diet of Plunket Shield (four-day), Ford Trophy and Hallyburton Johnstone Shield (one-day) for men and women respectively through the summer.
“This summer is all about welcoming back crowds and providing fans with the best possible opportunity to get out and experience the action first-hand, to let their hair down and have a good time,” said MacCormack.
“This is a brilliant competition for showcasing excitement, action and fun, while still retaining a really serious edge in terms of high-performance – it’s the ultimate cricket mix.”
MacCormack also confirmed ticket prices at all BLACKCAPS and WHITE FERNS games would remain the same as last year’s discounted levels. “New Zealand Cricket have recognised the challenges of the current environment – and their priority is to make international cricket as accessible as possible.
“After the previous seasons’ restrictions from Covid, we want to ensure Seddon Park fixtures remain affordable and welcoming.”
