Rose Optometry providing eye care for over 50 years

Rose Optometry, located in Lake Road, Frankton, has served the Waikato and beyond for over 50 years.

Proud to be kiwi – Rose Optometry is independently owned and is affiliated with the Independent Optometry Group who support New Zealand owned practices throughout the country.

What started as a small family-owned practice by Paul and Lynette Rose in 1969, still operates as a family enterprise with partner/optometrists Peter Walker and Jagrut Lallu at the helm, with their wives Kelly Parker and Jacqueline Rowe having key management roles.

“At Roses, we pride ourselves on having the most up to date technology to better understand, diagnose and treat your eyes.  Our wide range of services take care of all your visual and eye health needs,” Peter says.

“Our current team of 20 have a combined service of 237 years, which is testament to the commitment and desire we all have to provide the best eye care solutions and ongoing care for our patients and customers,” Jagrut adds.

Always at the edge of ground-breaking optometry technology, the practice opened the first myopia control clinic in New Zealand in 2009. Centred around research-based methods of slowing the progression of short-sightedness, the clinic now uses several different methods to achieve this, especially for young children with the condition.  Instead of prescribing spectacles for children and adolescents who require regular updates to their glasses, the clinic offers contact lens-based procedures called Orthokeratology or Ortho-K and MiSight daily soft contact lenses.

“Vision therapy for children who are experiencing visual difficulties at school can eliminate the need for prescription glasses.  We can often rectify the issues with vision exercises to strengthen the eye muscles” vision therapy specialist Jagrut says.

Rose’s specialty dry eye clinic can test for, diagnose and treat issues that result in dry eyes – an inflammatory or ocular surface issue.  The dry eye clinic also covers watery and running eyes, as they both occur due to a breakdown in the composition of your tear film.

“Contact lenses remain a popular vision correction choice for many of our clients” Peter says.

“Rose Optometry is the home of the Rose K lens, a contact lens used in the treatment of the eye condition keratoconus.  This lens design by founding and now retired optometrist Paul Rose, will forever be linked to our practice as we continue to lead in the treatment of this complex eye condition.”

Complimenting the latest Hoya spectacle lens technology, the practice offers an extensive selection of high-end fashion frame brands – Faceaface, Tom Ford, Caroline Abrams, Ann et Valentine to name a few – and are the exclusive stockist for LA Eyeworks and Ahlem brands.

“Lockdown last year prompted us to look at ways to build a more resilient business,” Jagrut says.

“Investing in products and services such as online tele-medicine and increasing our online store product offering has delivered a much higher level of customer service to our clients.  Our dedication to offer the best solution to all our clients and customers is the backbone of our business and we are looking forward to continuing this as we approach 2022.”
