Q: In your role, what’s been the most rewarding challenge you’ve tackled this year?
The most rewarding challenge this year has been succeeding in these unknown times, we as a team have tackled the targets that we set for the business even due to a number of challenges with stock being hard to source and delays on shipping etc, we have still managed through hard work from the team to make these targets.
Q: Has your business been impacted by covid over the past 18 months? If so, how?
Like every business one way or another we have been affected through stock shortage due to lockdowns or shipping delays but as a whole we haven’t had a lot of after affects from Covid
Q: How are your staff coping during the pandemic? What emphasis have you placed on staff wellbeing, and is this any more or less than ‘normal ?’
As we are a small business with 6 staff it helps that we are more like a small family, we have regular chats and updates and during the lockdowns we communicated with the staff about where we were as a business, and what the steps were after the levels lifted, and also what safety precautions we had in place to ensure their safety.
Communication is a big key and without your staff you don’t have success. They are the key players you have to ensure they are fully informed and safe.
Q: What’s been your biggest learning this year on the leadership front?
When you own a business every day is a learning curve, you’re forever learning something new. I couldn’t say that I had one thing stand out as the biggest as I’m learning all the time. Coming from never being a business owner before to being one out of circumstances it’s hard. You have lots of responsibilities and you hold people’s lives in your hands, now that’s a learning experience. I don’t work for me I work for them and what we get out of it is a bonus.
Q: Within your role, what are you most excited about achieving in the next quarter before summer break?
Making it and seeing us succeed. Nothing beats making it to the end of each year with the doors still been able to open the next day.
