Designers go green at Home & Garden Show

A fast-growing trend in design is “green living” as New Zealanders become increasingly aware of the importance of sustainable building and interiors.

In recognition of the trend, Green Living is the theme for this year’s Interior Design Awards, which are hosted at the Waikato Home & Garden Show.

In the competition, interior designers are challenged to incorporate “green living” into a 5m x 4m stand.

From incorporating sustainable materials and energy-efficient products to including green colour and bringing outdoor influences inside, they are tasked with getting creative.

Visitors to the Show can see the results from October 4-7 at Claudelands Event Centre. They can also check out what’s on offer from more than 450 exhibitors, covering everything from smart technology in the new Samsung Smart Home feature to building solutions for sheds, tiny houses, sleepouts and more at the Street of Homes.

“We know visitors this year are going to love the variety on offer – there’s such a great mix of exhibitors to see,” exhibition director Rebecca Hannah says.

“Hundreds of experts are on hand over the four days to give free advice so bring along the plans or a sketch of your ideas to discuss direct with the business owners, designers and experts.

“This is not only a useful day out for anyone interested in homes and gardens – it’s a fun one.”
