Foster Construction has been named as Supreme Winner at the 2017 Westpac Waikato Business Awards.

Award winners as well as 2017 Laureates to the Waikato Business Hall of Fame were announced at the annual gala dinner on Friday, November 3 at Claudelands Event Centre.

Waikato Chamber of Commerce chief executive, William Durning said that once again the business community from across Waikato, came together with a strong unified voice representing all those in business and the role that business plays in supporting and enabling the Waikato community.

“Waikato business has never been stronger, more dynamic or caring in its support of the community at large. We take great pride in saying here in the Mighty Waikato there are great things happening in business that impact not just our region, but across New Zealand and the globe.”

Mr Durning said the Waikato region continues to play a significant role in contributing to success in New Zealand and this was endorsed by the extensive range and quality of those businesses and business leaders that were recognised at this year’s event.

Businesses that participated in the awards have benefited in several ways. Those that have made the finals and the category winners have had their business profiles raised; strengthening existing commercial relationships and laid the groundwork for new relationships to develop.

“With the new format of our awards we continue to see not only those that are re-engaging to improve and develop on lessons learned from last year but also a significant number of new participants who have also seen the quality of the previous year’s finalists and hear from their peers about how beneficial the process is. On this basis they have decided that now is a great time to learn and be measured against the other great businesses and business leaders that our region is fortunate to have,” Mr Durning said.

“This year has again seen intense competition driven by the quality of entries. We love the fact that our judges continue to remark that it gets harder and harder to select the Supreme Winner because of this quality. This year’s Supreme Winner – Foster Construction is the perfect example of just why we are the Mighty Waikato when it comes to overall excellence in business,” Mr Durning said. The judges said: Foster Construction is a well-managed and planned business, successfully operating in a challenging industry.

The company’s Vision of ‘Stronger Community through solid foundations’ – and its Core Purpose ‘to develop, maintain and strengthen relationships and deliver property solutions that provide the best outcomes for business, community and our people’, have enshrined Foster Construction as one of Waikato’s most iconic business’s.

The implementation of profit distribution to a charitable entity for community aspects is to be commended.

Foster Construction has excellent leadership, a commendable focus on training and developing its team and commitment to the Waikato community.

In announcing the 2017 Laureates to the Waikato Business Hall of Fame Mr Durning said “We felt that it was more than appropriate to recognise the significant contribution that Bill Gallagher Snr and Brian Perry have played in establishing businesses that have not only been commercially successful, but also have equally recognised the importance of giving back to their community. This truly holistic view of how good business is conducted is something that is very much in the DNA of doing business in the Waikato. We also felt that through a lifetime of following your passion and very simply doing a job the best way that you could, the impact that Sir Patrick Hogan and Cambridge Stud has had, not only on Cambridge and Waikato but also the New Zealand thoroughbred industry could not go any longer without acknowledgement. It is worth reflecting on the fact that our region has had such an impact over many generations, it is no wonder that we are known as The Mighty Waikato.”
