Luxury tour service takes off in Hamilton

Steven and Bronny Pett are true believers when it comes to Hamilton and Waikato.

Through their new business, Platinum Transfers & Tours, they are providing what’s known as Hamilton’s Hidden Secrets Tour, the first ever luxury, customised tour of the city for visitors.

The guided tour includes Hamilton Gardens, Waikato Museum and Arts Post, Memorial Park and Waikato River history. A complimentary tea or coffee including a slice or muffin at The River Kitchen Café. The city tour is one of a number of tours that Platinum Transfers & Tours offers around Waikato and beyond. Other destinations include Zealong Tea Estate, St Andrews Golf Course, Waikato River Explorer Scenic Cruise, Good George Brewery Tour, Gordonton Village Tour, Hobbiton, Waitomo Caves and Rotorua.

The owner operators of the new licensed and accredited passenger service are excited about showcasing Hamilton to visitors in a way never done before: A personalised, door to door, luxury service which can be customised according to their client’s needs. And they MEAN luxury – their vehicles, a Grand Cherokee Overland and the Premier Ford Tourneo van both have tinted windows, air conditioning, spacious plush interiors, charging ports for phones and complimentary chilled bottled water. Platinum Transfers & Tours drives only the client – NO sharing the vehicle with strangers.

The new venture is already gaining regular business from corporates for its premium transfers and Steven and Bronny’s customised tours are beginning to take off.

The Petts built the award-winning Astra Motor Lodge near Waikato Hospital four years ago, basing much of their business on great relationships with corporates such as Waikato District Health Board, Gallagher, the police and government departments.

It is from these and other great corporate relationships that much of their new business is derived.

Astra Motor Lodge was highly ranked on Trip Advisor for a number of years and in 2015 Steven and Bronny won AA Traveller NZ Host of the Year, an achievement they put down to a huge emphasis on customer service.

While owning the Astra Motor Lodge, the couple would often transfer guests and Steven and Bronny spotted a gap in the market for premium transfers around Hamilton. They’ve made the niche their own.

“Platinum Transfers & Tours will arrange a safe and pleasant transfer for all companies’ clients and can provide an ease of travel throughout their stay,” says Steven. “Travelling with us means clients always arrive relaxed and on time.”

They’ve extended the transfers into customised luxury tours. Businesses will often host VIPs from elsewhere in the country or overseas. Trying to provide entertainment for guests or their families can be an executive assistant’s worst nightmare. Platinum Transfers & Tours can take all this pressure away by customising tours according to the client’s time frames.

“A company’s most valued asset is represented by its clients, so you need to make sure they enjoy their time with you. There are a lot more VIPs coming into Hamilton now. They may have only two or three hours to kill before a meeting or a few hours off in an afternoon. Or they may have brought a partner with them and want to keep them entertained while they are in a meeting.”

Basing the business in Hamilton takes advantage of its central location and the ability to do a number of day trips, all within about an hour from the city.

But instead of trying to fit in with bus timetables on a trip to Hobbiton or Waitomo Caves, the trip can be arranged around the visitor’s timetable.

Steven and Bronny emphasise that there is plenty for guests to see and do in Hamilton itself.

“Some people miss Hamilton out completely when they think of tourism whereas we base our whole operation around Hamilton,” says Bronny.

“We are really passionate about the city and we want to keep people here – not for just one night.”

Platinum Transfers & Tours is not just for corporate guests and Steven points out that if two or more people are travelling together the cost drops significantly and is not much different to a regular bus or shuttle trip.

Steven and Bronny plan to extend tours in the summer and hope to add on attractions such as, Raglan, local stadium tours and river tours. Auckland day trips have been another suggestion so let us customise your trip.
